It begins with a conversation. A place to slow down, untangle what’s been carried quietly, and reflect on what matters beneath the surface.
I’m JJ Almond – a psychotherapeutic counsellor trained in Transactional Analysis (TA). I work online with adults across the UK, particularly those who live visible, expressive lives while carrying pressure that isn’t always seen. Many of the people I work with are Creatives, LGBTQ+ professionals, and people whose identities or experiences are closely tied to how they are seen in the world. Despite being capable and outwardly confident, they may feel stuck, overwhelmed, or subtly disconnected from themselves.
My approach is warm, thoughtful, and relational. Rather than rushing toward solutions, I’m interested in understanding the patterns that shape how you relate to your work, your relationships, and yourself. Therapy with me is reflective rather than performative, and grounded rather than clinical.
Before becoming a therapist, I spent years working in theatre — directing productions, running venues, and navigating environments shaped by creativity, visibility, and real-world complexity. That experience taught me something fundamental: whether it’s on stage or in a therapy room, everything comes back to relationships and how we show up in them.
I also work with people living with or affected by HIV. My own lived experience has shaped a deep appreciation for the emotional layers that can accompany diagnosis, treatment, and long-term survival — including stigma, fear, intimacy, and questions of identity. In therapy, these experiences can be explored with care, without judgement, and without the need to explain or minimise.
Alongside my professional training, I bring lived experience and a strong commitment to ongoing development. I am an Advanced Trainee in Psychotherapy at The Berne Institute, continuing to deepen the relational work I bring with clients.
If you’re looking for someone who will meet you where you are — with curiosity, care, and honest attention — we can begin with a conversation and see whether working together feels right.
